Faculty training I like your concept of using an online source for staff development. In my school district the budget constraints are such that they have done away with any flex-time, after-school, or in-school technology training. The best example of this is that we switched from Windows to Macs a year ago; we were given a 45 minute training during our prep that taught us how to plug it in and log on. When the tech department offers any trainings, they are badly attended (due to the voluntary nature of not being paid). Perhaps I should suggest that they use their Wiki platform to have teachers learn about the tech in their "free" time...

Faculty training We use Blackboard and Moodle - which is sometimes confusing for students and for us in IT - double imports, who is teaching on what platform or both, double the helpdesk questions. Blackboard has been used since 2003 and is the main LMS. Our Center for Lifelong Learning decided to use Moodle two years ago for their totally online courses. The jury is still out on preference. We just went live with Bb 9 this week so there is a lot of questions about the new Bb. If I ever get to the end of the emails and voice mails I could start on the wiki.

Faculty training Your idea to use a wiki as a means of planning/professional development is a good idea. It will allow faculty to not only read over information for help, but to also contribute. I did a training for the staff at my elementary school last year on how to set up a webpage on Schoolcenter and setting up a wiki is something that I didn't think of, but may have been useful at that time. I did set up a full "sample site" on Schoolcenter, but a wiki could have been useful for further collaboration.

Faculty training I like your perspective of using a wiki for faculty training. Our district is switching from blackboard to moodle (because of cost issues) for next year. I am hoping to create some online components to both of my upper level biology classes which are also part of a dual enrollment program. There are several teachers who are planning on utilizing moodle for this purpose next year. Setting up a wiki before the end of the school year would allow for us to communicate over the summer without actually having to plan to get together. It would also allow us to participate as much or as little over the summer as we work to setting up moodle classes. Thanks for the idea - I will bring this up to the other interested teachers and I bet this is something we will do over the summer!
